BASM Client “The Peregrine Dame” Debuts on Roku!

I’m so excited with this press release! I just got news that one of our favorite travel shows (and clients), The Peregrine Dame, is now available on Roku, the streaming set top box platform.

The Peregrine Dame is a self shot short form episodic travel documentary series. The premise, the lone & fearless Rachel Parsons shows viewers that it doesn’t have to be so scary to travel solo. Seriously, I tip my hat off to her for being gutsy enough to travel to remote areas completely alone…I don’t even like to eat in a restaurant by myself in my own city! Rachel visits a variety of locales from well trodden sites through Ireland, London and Australia to off the beaten paths like a Himalayan Ashram or the South African bush country. The Peregrine Dame has been a fan favorite on Windows Media, with multiple placements from visiting the Taj in India, traveling the Australian Outback and a visit to the Dead Sea in Israel.

We’re very excited about this opportunity since The Peregrine Dame will have their own channel on Roku entitled “The Peregrine Dame”. Content will be updated periodically as new seasons are produced. The news was released this afternoon on the Roku Guide website.  The Peregrine Dame Roku channel is available for a one time $2.99 subscription fee.

For those who are unfamiliar, Roku is a set top box streaming platform that aggregates content from some of the hottest shows and networks in the industry including Hulu, Netflix, Amazon TV, ABC, Disney and more. Roku was established in 2002 by Anthony Wood, the inventor of the digital video recorder device. The platform has become popular because of its moderately priced set top boxes and variety of choices.

For more information about The Peregrine Dame, visit their official website at www.theperegrinedame.com or follow them on Twitter: @peregrinedame.

If you haven’t already, check out this track and learn more about Uni V Sol by visiting www.iamuniversol.com.

Guess Who Got an Update?! Yup Big Apple Style Marketing!

I know I know…”oh the ironing” (it’s a joke from a forum I belong to – you would have to know the thread to get the joke) that the digital entertainment marketer who’s all about being on brand and proper messaging took a whopping 6 months to update their website! But I hate photoshop and dreamweaver with a passion. And since I’m doing the updates myself, I’d much rather work on my client’s campaigns than work on web-dev.

Big Apple Style Marketing got an update!!!

Anywho, this update sees more partners added, more news and an updated “About Us” page which highlights our shift into marketing international artists into the North American entertainment industry with one of our favorite partners, C.E. United!!

Commercials I’m Loving: Radio Shack’s “Santa’s Snacks”

Okay…I couldn’t end the night on a negative commercial review! So…I decided to share this little golden nugget.

Now normally, I avoid Christmas marketing like the plague. I’m sorry, I’m a bit of a humbug when it comes to holiday marketing. I abhor the commercialization of a truly wonderful & meaningful holiday. It probably comes from when I used to work in retail and for the entire months of November and December we were forced to listen to in-store music and marketing laced with an inordinate amount of cheesy holiday songs from unknown (or lesser known) pop starlet wannabes. After the first 4 hours of a 9 – 12 hour shift (thanks to longer holiday hours), you’d start to hate Christmas music too!

But I digress. I love this commercial, first because it’s Ludacris as the voice over – and who DOESN’T love Ludacris! Two – and don’t judge me! – I have actually eaten that Santa snack when I was far too lazy to leave the house and was trying to convince someone else to bring me food. Like I said, don’t judge me!!! ^_^

Commercials That Confuse Me: Captain Morgan’s “Glass”

Seriously…I watched this twice and I’m still trying to figure out the purpose of it. Officially, the Captain Morgan Youtube page for the “Glass” commercial says “watch Captain Morgan get the party started”.

But I’m not understanding the correlation between throwing glasses and plates on the floor and getting hyped to drink spiced rum…especially since you actually don’t see anyone drinking rum. In my opinion, whatever is in Captain Morgan’s glass looks far too light to actually be his spiced rum.

And don’t get me started on how some of the members sitting at the table probably wouldn’t be passing as nobility in Santo Domingo in 1661 – I can’t suspend my disbelief with this one. Sorry guys, I ♥ Captain Morgan’s Spiced Rum, but the commercial…not so much.

Have You Googled Lately? Google Pays Tribute to Louis Daguerre

Seriously, I really ♥ Google Doodles! And today is no exception!

In the midst of my furious press release drafting, I thought it’d be great to slip in a post just for fun! Today is the 224th birthday of Louis Daguerre, the inventor of the daguerreotype, which was a form of photography that modernized the way photographers processed film. Prior to Louis Daguerre’s revolutionary method, it took hours to process a photograph! After his invention in 1836, it took just 20-30 minutes. Make sure you check out Google if you get the chance!

Japanese Rock Band “fade” Joins Jelli Internet Radio’s Music Catalog

For Immediate Release:

Friday, November 18th, 2011

Japanese rock band fade debuts on Jelli Internet Radio PlatformIt’s been a busy few months for the Japanese rock band fade who kicked off their US marketing campaign in September by launching on the popular Internet platform, Pandora. Since then, the momentum has only been gathering and today the five member band can add another innovative Internet platform to their distribution list. fade’s three most recent albums, “Age of Innocence”, “To Find A Better Tomorrow” and their latest release “Kings of Dawn” are now available on US consumer oriented platform, Jelli.

Jelli is a US based Internet radio station with a twist. Like other Internet radio stations, they play a variety of genres. But, the twist is that it’s even more user controlled than traditional Internet radio stations. So, not only do users get to “rate” songs, which will then dictate whether or not that song appears again in their playlist, but they also have the opportunity to influence playlists for major commercial terrestrial radio stations here in the US. Consumers can suggest new songs, rate existing songs in the “Jelli Curated” playlists for the online webcast versions of terrestrial radio stations and if the song receives enough likes, it can then become eligible for playback on the actual terrestrial version.

fade is a unique five member rock group from Japan that truly embodies the ability to effectively bridge Eastern and Western cultures by seamlessly blending the iconic 1980’s American rock sounds with their inherent international flavor. Of its band members, four are originally from the United States. Kansei (guitar), Noriyuki (bass) and Rui (drums/writer/founder) hail from New York and their lead singer Jon Underdown is from Seattle – two influential cities known for heavily shaping the American music scene over the years. The fifth member 5° is from Japan and a noted artist within the community.

fade’s addition into Jelli’s catalog comes on the heels of a flurry of press and distribution activity in the US market. Just last week they were interviewed by the music discovery blog, PensEyeView. For the entire month of November select songs and music videos from their three latest albums have been featured prominently on Windows Media Entertainment Guide’s “Artist on the Rise” feature page. In October fade’s content became discoverable through the music tagging mobile platform Shazam, just weeks after being included for in-store entertainment distribution to major retail and hospitality chains (Disney Cruise Lines, Princess Cruise Lines, Hitlon & Marriot hotel chains) by the out-of-home entertainment distribution giant Promo Only. And, in September, fade first debuted in the US through the Internet radio station, Pandora.

Jesse McFaddin, lead singer and founder of the popular J-Rock trio RIZE has long been viewed as a leader in music and fashion. Although mainly known for his musical stylings, Jesse created his own clothing line, Slip & Corporation (known in short as Slip&Co) in August of 2006 from his hometown of Togoshi, Japan. Slip&Co is a men’s streetwear collection with a focus on the skater lifestyle. The line is highlighted by graphic tees & shirts, graphic hoodies, premium denim and a mini collection of dress wear comprised of stylized pants and vests.

Slip&Co is wildly successful in Japan. Fueled by Jesse’s notoriety, the line was immediately accepted by on-trend boutique stores, specifically in the fashion forward metropolitan city Tokyo. The line has also created collaborative projects such as various limited edition caps designed for the iconic New Era brand. Additionally, celebrities in the Japanese entertainment scene have flocked to Jesse’s line, with top tier names like actor Ichihara Hayato amongst Slip&Co’s celebrity fans.

After years of success in Japan, Jesse’s focusing on the United States for not only Slip&Co but for his music career as well. Not only is Jesse McFaddin looking to the American entertainment scene for his next solo music project entitled “STAND UP! Fund”, but Slip&Co will officially debut at the February 2012 MAGIC trade show in Las Vegas, appearing in the popular and growing streetwear category s.l.a.t.e.

MAGIC is the premiere retail industry trade show in the United States, occurring biannually every February and August. Nearly $200 Million in orders is written daily and the show is considered one of the top trade shows for clothing lines world wide to exhibit. Attendees hail from over 80 countries and nearly 5000 brands will be in attendance to present previously known or new to market brands. s.l.a.t.e. is a newer division of the MAGIC trade show brand, focusing exclusively on streetwear and brings together a collection of emerging and established brands.

On the heels of our press release on 11.11.11 regarding Jesse McFaddin’s (front man of J-Rock band RIZE) official launch in the US through his GIMCRACK and STAND UP!
