RIZE featured in the June issue of Bravisimo Magazine!

We’re very excited to announce that RIZE is featured in the June edition of Revista Bravisimo, a Spanish language monthly publication released in Venezuela that covers pop culture & music celebrities from Venezuela and worldwide.

RIZE has a three page article covering a brief bio of the group, a Q&A segment as well as coverage of their involvement at the East Meets West concert this past March in NYC. And, there’s even a two page pull out poster for fans! Although the article isn’t available in English or online, we have scans to share. Remember Bravisimo is in Spanish, so…find a friend to translate if you don’t speak Spanish! ^_^

BASM Client Jesse McFaddin Snags the Cover for Ollie Mag’s May ’12 Issue

A short & sweet post since it’s so early in the AM!

One of our favorite & most philosophical clients, Jesse McFaddin is on the May cover of Ollie Magazine, one of the mainstays for Japan’s lifestyle magazine niche.

Jesse McFaddin is the lead singer and founder of the extremely popular Japanese rock group, RIZE . RIZE is a hard rock/metal band that has been around for eleven years with major accomplishments such as performing at Live 8 in 2005 and Live Earth in 2007, having their song “Zero” licensed by Coke Zero Japan/Asia, various songs used for PS2 games such as “BioHazard”, and have appeared live with NIN, Run DMC, Jay Z & Oasis. They toured in the US in 2003 on an “All American” tour with The Kottonmouth Kings, performing at 38 shows across the country. Jesse McFaddin – Spokesperson for “No Water No Chemical”

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

RIZE founder & frontman Jesse McFaddin is a new face for the ethical sustainability denim brand, No Water No ChemicalNo Water No Chemical is the brainchild of popular French designer Marithé François Girbaud and employs a new method for creating his fashion staple – denim – that creates a much less harmful impact on the environment by implementing a new system for processing denim that virtually reduces the use of water, and thereby creating a conservation effect.

Marithé François Girbaud is well known in the fashion circuit, having appeared in various fashion weeks including NYFW September 2011 to debut his Spring ’12 collection – attended by Big Apple Style Marketing at the Metropolitan Pavillion in Manhattan. We just know that Jesse is an awesome spokesperson for this effort based on his philosophies of creating global change with his campaigns such as “Bring the Hope” and “STAND UP! Fund”.

A quick excerpt from his philosophy on the No Water No Chemicals site:

“We all have to change. Change is difficult, but I think it is possible for us to make a shift in direction. To me, the disaster in Japan, the earthquake in Haiti, or the global problems about water are all the same. They are just problems. People often talk of ‘good news’ or ‘bad news,’ but to me, they are all just news. Whether it is good or bad is up to me. If it is bad, how could it become good? It can change with how you perceive it. For instance, the water shortage in China is bad news, but it is fortunate to become aware of it. If one can make an effort to change the situation after hearing the news, it is all the better.”

RIZE Interviewed by Music Psychos Blog for CMW!

A short and quick post today!

After the mini North American tour that our clients RIZE & fade just finished in the past two weeks, we’re still sifting through all the media that’s been coming in over the past few days! Last week RIZE performed at two events in Canada and finished up with an intense & high energy performance at “The Studio” in the iconic Webster Hall –  a staple of the NYC event scene since the 1800s.

We just stumbled across this blog interview for RIZE that took place last week while they were in Toronto for CMW (Canada Music Week). The blog is called Music Psychos and essentially covers the Toronto music scene whether that be local artists or visiting performers.

RIZE Ranked as 1 of 2nd Generation Bands with Top Talent on JPopAsia.com!!

Short & sweet post since literally – the blog post title says it all. But as usual, we love it when someone else is talking about our clients!

So JPopAsia.com, an international resource for all things music from Asia (so JPop is kind of a misnomer at this point), polled their readers to see who the fans felt had the most talent out of the multitude of second generation artists in the Asian music scene. RIZE ranked 6th in the top 10 list. :)

As an aside – no matter where in the world you are – 2nd generation entertainers are traditionally thought to receive preferential treatment by the media because of the fact that they’re the child of someone already famous. So, this theory could apply to any market.

JPopAsia Polls Readers

JPop Asia polls readers for top 2nd generation talented artists & RIZE makes the list!

As background for those unfamiliar with RIZE’s back story, all of the members (Jesse McFaddin [son of Char], KenKen & NK [sons of Johnny]) have parents who were in the legendary Japanese rock band Pink Cloud. RIZE is a hard rock/metal band that debuted in 2000 with major accomplishments such as performing at Live 8 in 2005 and Live Earth in 2007, having their song “Zero” licensed by Coke Zero Japan/Asia, various songs used for PS2 games such as “BioHazard”, and have appeared live with NIN, Run DMC, Jay Z & Oasis. RIZE is a trio comprised of Jesse McFaddin (founder, guitar & lead singer), KenKen (bassist) and NK (drummer). Both the group, RIZE, and the individual members, are major icons in the Japanese music and pop culture scenes, influencing music, entertainment, gaming and fashion.

Jesse McFaddin Featured on Melo TV News for MAGIC Feb ’12 Event Coverage

Clearly today has been a busy day of posting for the BASM blog – but well worth it!

We bring you yet another post about our client Jesse McFaddin – rocker, producer, designer, social activist & all around cool dude. Today we just received an event recap for MAGIC February 2012 from the awesome ear-to-the-ground crew at Melo TV News. Melo TV is an interview/event coverage platform that looks for what’s new and hot at some of the top events in the country. Last week they were at MAGIC and stopped by the s.l.a.t.e. show floor to check out what’s hot in the urban/street wear category for Fall 2012.

Melo TV dropped by the Slip&Co booth to check out the ONLY Japanese street line that presented at s.l.a.t.e! While they were there, Jesse decided to bless them with an impromptu freestyle rap in English & Japanese – which only goes to show how talented our guy is! Fast forward to 1:35 to check out Jesse’s flow! ^_^

Slip&Co x MAGIC Feb ’12 Event Recap!

Finally, we’re releasing the event recap for MAGIC February 2012!

This is just a quick overview of pictures, videos and links from press, interviews and events at MAGIC. Last week, we had the pleasure of helping to launch the popular Japanese men’s street wear line, Slip&Co in the US. What’s more after months of working on marketing campaigns for Jesse, his line Slip&Co and his band RIZE, we finally got to meet him. And for the record, he’s one of the coolest, down to earth people we’ve met in a long time – with a real love for milk! For those unfamiliar, Slip&Co is designed by iconic Japanese rock artist Jesse McFaddin – the frontman for RIZE, a legendary Japanese alternative rock band. The line is envisioned to be a collection that could appeal to young and mature rockers & urban fashion lovers alike. With an array of graphic tees, carefully crafted button downs & jackets and premium Japanese denim, the line was well received at MAGIC. The Slip&Co booth was always full of press and buyers from the start of the show to the last day including Open Fly Magazine, Swagg Magazine, Urban Fashion Weekly, 411 Magazine and more.

Additionally, collaborating lines stopped by to visit with Jesse, namely Blackfly frames & sunglasses which has partnered with Jesse McFaddin & Slip&Co to create a collection of McFaddin “F’in Rock Star” frames.

For those who are curious, s.l.a.t.e. is the street wear division of MAGIC which is quickly becoming a focal point for the three day industry only trade show. MAGIC is an event where buyers from some of the world’s top department stores and boutiques preview and write orders for designs from established and up-and-coming lines that are showcasing men’s, women’s and accessories looks for the next season. This February, lines unveiled their Fall 2012 collections.
